CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Wendy Moira Angela Darling
CODENAME: N/A
SERIES/SOURCE: J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy
AGE: 16
GENDER: Female
ROLE: Student

BACKGROUND: While Wendy and her brothers, John and Michael, are left home for the evening, their parents, George and Mary, head off to a social gathering hosted by George’s boss. On the drive home, however, they’re hit by another car, and both parents are killed in the collision.

The children are taken to Kensington Child Services on a temporary stay, and make friends with many of the orphans there, including one Peter Pan. While listening in on Wendy’s storytelling, Peter realizes her reality-warping ability and immediately drags her and her brothers into the Neverland illusion he’s brought over many others in the orphanage. Within this illusion, they experience the same events that are brought to life in J M Barrie’s novel, with the twist that Captain Hook, another orphan named James, is actually working to free everyone from Peter’s illusion. For example, a jealous Tinker Bell (in reality, a mutant girl with the power of Flight), attempts to kill Wendy out of the illusion, and fails. When a memory of the real-world (and her late parents) hits, Wendy realizes that they’re stuck in the illusion, and tries to leave to return to reality with her brothers and several of the other orphans. In the process, they are captured by James as he sets the poison trap meant to snap Peter back into reality. They are held prisoner until it’s carried out. This goes on to include James trying to force Wendy from the illusion by making her walk the plank, but the plan is foiled as Peter arrives to save the Lost Boys.

In the end, Captain Hook is “killed,” and James is returned to reality. Peter realizes that he will sabotage the illusion from the outside, and with some convincing from Wendy he steers everyone under the illusion back into reality. Children with mutant powers are sent off as a result. Wendy, soon after discovered to be a mutant, finds her way to Xavier Institute.

PERSONALITY: While she contains the want to stay a child, it is seen that Wendy is already growing up. She’s motherly, especially when it comes to caring for her brothers or any of the other orphans. While she outwardly has come to terms with having to grow up, the nature of her powers still has her battling internally. She might seem mature and wise for her age, but she’s still very much a child at heart. Nothing is more tempting, after all, than having the ability to bend the world into a playground and yourself into a child forever. The only thing that’s kept her from it so far is the realization that it might affect others, something which the maternal part of Wendy can’t quite allow.

APPEARANCE: At the age of fifteen, Wendy has already begun her transition into becoming a young woman. She still has many of her childish features, seen mostly in her still-rounded face. Blue eyes still reflect that playful, carefree attitude of a child, though Wendy as a whole is beginning to mature.

Within Peter’s illusions, or in Wendy’s own thoughts of herself, she often appears a few years younger, a result of her wanting to stay a child.

POWERS: Wendy is a reality-warper. She is able to reshape and alter the world around her to fit her own, or even someone else’s, will. This can be anything from creating to help tell a story, to mimicking another power or appearance, to even bending time and space. Thankfully, at the time of her arrival at Xavier Institute, Wendy’s power is still only just blooming, and has not yet reached the dangerous potential it could.

While she has learned to use the power well on a conscious-level (ie: telling stories into reality to help the telling of them, and avoiding letting her own will affect reality), Wendy does have trouble controlling subconsciously. If she can’t concentrate, or is having a particularly vivid dream, the reality of the subconscious has the possibility of leaking out into the conscious world.
